Birth: 15 Jan 1767To: "Howard Horner" Subject: Stuckey # 3Your # 10. Simon STUCKEY II - my direct ancestry and can be carried down much further in most further branches & to present day directly to me (if you so wish later on). Simon was born near Shepherdstown, Virginia. Following his marriage in 1792 he lived in Berkeley County, Virginia, then Maryland. About 1795, Jacob Snider purchased property in Snake Springs Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania from Jacob Studebaker and soon after, Simon brought his new family there to farm for the remainder of his life. Jacob Studebaker (1752 - 1813) elsewhere in this tree was related to the Stuckeys and Sniders through marriages and was likely a near relative of Simon's mother-in-law. In 1817 Simon purchased 'Forks of the Road Inn', soon to be known as 'Stone Forks Inn' and 1000 acres of land nearby. From the number of Stuckey families soon farming this area it became known as 'Stuckeyville' and repeated mention of both, the Inn and Stuckeyville, is found in biographies of many Stuckey families.Following the death of his first wife, Margaret Snider, Simon married Eve Phillips, a widow with two small children. One died shortly after their marriage.Simon, his first wife and three sons are buried together on their original homestead. The three sons were; John Stuckey who died in 1809 aged 1 year, Joseph Stuckey died in 1826 aged 23 years when struck by a falling tree and Abraham died in 1833 aged 17 years from a mishap with an axe.Simon died intestate and the probate proceedings of his estate were filed May 12, 1851 Bedford County, Pennsylvania by his son Charles, acting as administrator. They were a drawn out, disputed and somewhat bitter proceedings which had been complicated by; a) no will and b) that Simon would never give his children receipts. The original homestead grave location is now (1950s) at the rear of the barn on present day Reighert farm about 4 miles from Bedford town, Pennsylvania.10.
