Henry Lauer Hamme

Henry was a soldier in the Civil War serving from 1861 to 1863 as a private
in Company A, 87th Regiment, Pennsylvannia Volunteers.
He married Anna Mary Lenhart, daughter of Peter & Elizabeth (Stough) Lenhart
of Dover, PA. Anna was born 17 Jun 1835 and died 9 Aug 1912 and is also buried
at Salem (Strayers) Church, York Co. PA.

Hamme, Henry Lauer, Pvt Co A; mustered Sep 11, 1861; discharged Oct 13, 1864; born Sep 21, 1832; died Mar 24, 1911; a farmer and laborer from York; 5' 11", dark hair, brown eyes; initially company quartermaster; later, regimental wagonmaster and brigade teamster (as of August 25, 1863); kept a diary but "lost it"; suffered an injury to his right ankle August 9, 1864 in the explosion caused by Confederate sabotage of the Union supply base at City Point, Virginia; son of Daniel & Anna Maria Lauer; married Anna Mary Lenhart February 16, 1860; children: Daniel Henry (b. 03/06/61), Robert Lincoln (b. 06/01/65), Lillian May (b. 02/14/67), Jennie Bell (b. 07/23/68), and Laura Virginia (b. 07/23/68), and Charles Lenhart (b. 10/21/70); from 1866, lived in Hanover; buried in Strayer Church Cemetery, Dover Township, York County, Pennsylvania
